December 24 - The Glassy Sea

The interlude between the trumpet judgments and the bowl judgments was a sign seen by John. It was great and amazing: there were seven angels with seven final plagues. When these seven plagues in the form of seven bowls are poured out, the wrath of God is finished. That calls for a mini celebration of those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name. They are standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands, singing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb.

The glassy sea is mingled with fire, an interesting sight. When we think of the sea, we think of wave, storm, turmoil and unrest. The bible uses the sea to represent humanity, all the uproar, confusion and disturbance. However, in that day, the sea will be like glass: no more waves, no human movements, nothing that brings hardship or pain. The sea of humanity is smooth like glass with no ripples, what a sight! This is the peace and tranquility that exists only in dreams. Such is the desire of many who are tired of all the commotions and conflicts in the world.

Even before the New Heaven and the New Earth, God gives a picture of what it could have been should He become the Ruler of the world. When the kingdoms of the world become the Kingdom of God, then everything will be at peace. The song of Moses and of the Lamb expresses this well: “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”

The Lord can change the raging sea into a glassy sea, only if we allow Him to rule. God’s deeds and ways are to bring peace and tranquility into people’s lives, into families and into nations. Because His ways are true and just and holy, and if we abide by His rules and commandments, we should experience peace (shalom) and well being. The lack of peace is a sign of one who is not completely under the rule or Lordship of Jesus Christ

Christ is the peace and He came to the world to bring peace to humanity. When He died on the cross, He made peace between God and mankind. His post-resurrection appearance greeting of “shalom” is what He has already accomplished. You may have this peace by yielding to His complete rule in your life. Is there any turmoil now in your life? Do you sense any conflict within yourself? Are you well inside? Do you live in peace with others? Are you bringing peace to every situation? Are you a peacemaker? Ask the peace that surpasses all understanding from the King now.

He is the Prince of Peace!
