November 26 - Our God is Great

All of us need to be reminded of who God is as we live our Christian life. Losing sight of who He is may result in a loss of faith. Every day as we approach the Word of God, we need to find out again and again how great God is.

The psalmist waits for the Lord and His Word with urgency for he knows that the Lord has compassion and salvation. He will redeem Israel from all her iniquities. God’s action of redemption is based on His love and mercy.

Daniel the prophet also declared who God is to King Nebuchadnezzar: “but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.” The reason why Daniel was able to interpret dreams was not because of his wisdom but came from the revelation of God. The interpretation was for the benefit of the king so that he might know the thoughts of his own mind. God is all knowing, all mysteries belong to Him and He even knows the thoughts of every person.

God is also the Stone that struck the image that the king had dreamed about. It would become a great mountain and fill the whole earth. He is the God of heaven who would set up a Kingdom that shall never be destroyed. God’s Kingdom is going to break in pieces all the kingdoms of the earth and it shall stand forever. This Stone was not made by human hand, it is divine, the chief cornerstone, Jesus Himself.

The king then realized who this great God was and said, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries.” He further had an encounter with this God when the three friends of Daniel were put into the fiery furnace. Not only that they were not consumed by the fire, their God came to them in the midst of their trials as the fourth person, unbound. His appearance was like a son of the gods. God cares about the sufferings and trials of His servants to the point that He walks beside them in their hour of hardship.

Peter warns of a fiery trials coming upon believers, but if they endure them with joy, the Spirit of glory will rest upon them. We are to be watchful for the adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. We are to resist him and defeat him for after a little while, the God of all grace will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish us.

Now go to the Lord and repeat all His character, attributes and works before Him. Praise Him for who He is and what He did, does and will do. Your faith will grow because of who He is. Tell Him about your present situation and ask for His presence and help.
