September 19 - Mutual Waiting

Isaiah gives a beautiful picture of God waiting for us and we waiting for God: “Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore He exalts Himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him.” (30:18)

God is waiting to bless us, to be gracious to us and to show mercy to us, but we have to be ready to be blessed. Earlier the Lord says, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be you strength.” Returning can also be translated as repenting, or a turn in direction. We must orient our life’s direction toward God, away from the world and sin for us to have rest. The first requirement for God’s blessings is returning to God, resting before Him with no further need of anything but the Lord. Repenting of our sins, resting our soul in Him can move us into a position of being blessed. God is waiting for us to do so.

The second condition for God’s blessing is to have a quiet trust in God. Our submission and trust in God should not be one of kicking and screaming but one that comes out from a deep knowing that God is God and He is able. There is no more struggle in whether to trust Him or not. The Lord is our God and there is no good thing outside of Him. With that, God is ready to bless us. Actually, He has been waiting for you to come into this place for Him to shower His grace and mercy on you.

Our waiting for God is to move towards Him by preparing ourselves to return to Him and to put our trust in Him. We have to come before Him every morning, waiting for His hand to move and His arm to save. He is our Help in times of trouble and we know that He is ready and willing to bless us. The reason why we do not have God’s blessing is because we are unwilling. We just want to have all the good things while our hearts are not ready to receive. Many trust in horses, going to Egypt for help, forming ungodly alliances without seeking the Lord like what the Israelites did in the time of Isaiah. We wait for many things to happen but not for the Lord, as a result, we run into more difficulties.

You must believe in the good will and gracious intention of God our Father. He would not do anything to hurt you but His is totally for you. He has been waiting all day long for you to go to Him and ask. He is ready and able to give you the desires of your heart and show mercy to you. Would you now wait before the Lord and ask Him to take away your sins and the things you trust? He is a God of justice and will never act against His Word. Come now and have rest and quietness in the Lord, knowing that He is waiting to bless you abundantly.
